Giving Thanks - Livin' the Good Life

02:00 pm - Giving Thanks

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

Yesterday we gave thanks for all our many blessings. Between Maya and I, the meal preparation went fairly seamlessly, and in my case, it was quite a joy! I think Maya would agree. We split up the tasks to share the workload, and it might have been my easiest Thanksgiving meal yet. And so delicious! (Maya makes wonderful stuffing and the BEST pies!) This year we had Grandpa Bob, Uncle Bill, and "Uncle" Robert join us in the celebration. Damian had to represent all of our sons this year. And he did a mighty fine job of it! Thanks for washing piles and piles of dishes so cheerfully, Damian!
I did something different this year with the table setting. I bought a muslin tablecloth and made placemats and napkins that matched our everyday tableware. Here's how it looked earlier in the day:

I didn't remember to take any pictures until everyone had gone home, as usual. But I wanted to show here a new tradition I'm starting this year. I had everyone sign their names with a pencil on the tablecloth during the meal.

Then later in the evening, I embroidered everyone's names in one color of thread, including the day's date, while we sat around visiting. Next year, we'll do it again, and I'll use a different color of thread. That way we can have a keepsake record of who all joined us for the holiday meal each year.

I have never seen or heard of a tradition like this, but I immediately wish we had done something like this. Love it.
