We had our annual celebration of Martinmas last night, and it was the best yet! There were about 30 people, counting children, which felt like a perfect number of people in our house. I gave my traditional puppet show for a whole new generation of little ones, and they loved it! The teenagers were watching as well, remembering how they loved that puppet show from the time they were 4 or 5 years old. It was very sweet. Two of the children belonged to a 22 year old girl who had watched the very same puppet show with our Ben back in the early 90s. So things are coming 'round full circle now... and I'm lovin' it! It was so cute to watch those fresh faces giving me their rapt attention. Then we did our traditional singing and procession with lanterns down our long, dark driveway. The singing was especially loud and in tune. We were definitely making a joyful noise unto the Lord! Oh, and the soups were the very best we've ever had. Every one was delicious, and we had a wonderful variety. The children were all getting along harmoniously, so I took them back to my playroom and played with them until it was time to go. All the moms came with me, and we had a fun time doing all the activities, dressing up in costumes, dancing and singing, putting dolls to bed, serving "tea" to everybody, reading books... it was a joyous time for me, I can tell you. What a beautiful group of children! Each of them is very carefully parented, and you can really tell. It's quite dramatic. It's so gratifying watching the moms in my group with their children. I never think, "I wish that mom would pay more attention to her child." Those children are getting their needs met, so they don't have to "act out" or misbehave. They are secure in their parent's love. What a beautiful thing to behold!

I loved reading about this. I wish I could have been there. You and I are so on the same page when it comes to children.

You're right, Jill. That's why we've been friends all these years. I'll say it once, and I'll say it again: Life doesn't make sense without children in it.
