Here it is: (Steve hasn't written his part yet)

Hello everyone! Here’s wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What a year 2008 has been! I don’t know about you, but the Lester family is ecstatic about the choice of president this time around. Because of the mess he inherited, things may not look so good for a while. But, we believe that within this next four years we will start to see a difference. We’re more than willing to hang in there with him!
Though the economy is in trouble (time to start living within your means, people!), and we’re all tightening our belts a bit, our family is just drawing closer together as we ride the coming storm. It’s a beautiful thing. When we realize where our treasure really resides, all we actually need is God and family and good friends to be happy. And we are.

Here’s the traditional thumbnail sketch of our family’s “doings” this last year:

Nathen is in his second year at University of Oregon and loving it. He’s studying to be a psychologist. He is still dancing regularly; swing, African, tango, and tap.

Ely declared during his annual hiatus from the Simpsons last summer that he was too busy to go back to work. (He was just kidding… he’s back.) He, like Nathen, is swing dancing several nights a week. And, he is spending every extra minute with his girlfriend (and dance partner), Christina.

Damian is going to college full time and is thoroughly enjoying it. He’s playing bass with several bands, including ours. He’s getting really buff and fit.

Maya will start school full time in January ’09. She’s been raising chickens and growing a garden this past year. She’s been working at the local health food store, which is the “hub” for all the people in town that anyone would want to know. She’s getting buff and fit, too!

Gabe is teaching Bikram Yoga in Eugene OR, and he just won the Oregon state yoga championship! He will go on to the national competition in LA in February. He and his girlfriend, Maggie (also a Bikram yoga teacher) are looking to open their own yoga studio.

Ben is still driving ambulances. He just finished recording his second album with his band, Unherd. He has fixed up a nice recording studio in the back part of his house and hopes to be open for business in the near future.

There is really no point in me recounting my last year when it’s already been written down in my blog. Anyone who wants to read my live journal may do so: http://lestermom.livejournal.com/. I have been having a wonderful time writing these days. This world is a fantastic place to write about! But, for those who don’t want to bother with the blog, I will just say that I’m very much enjoying my family. My dad is living with us, and he will soon turn 90! Damian and Maya are a joy to live next door to. Ben lives just down the street, and we love having him pop over with his dog when he’s on his run. We keep in close contact with Ely and Gabe by phone. Nathen is harder to keep track of, since he doesn’t have a phone, but when we do hear from him he seems busy and happy. He just started a blog, so we’re getting more details these days: http://nathensmiraculousescape.wordpress.com/

Steve and I are still performing with the Shadow Mountain Band on Saturday nights at Pappy and Harriet’s. (See my blog for details) The band just keeps getting better. Our CD is out, and we are already starting on the next one. I have become interested in politics for the first time in my life this past year… (See blog for details). I had a blast fixing up a “playroom” in our house so that kids can have fun things to do when they come over with their mamas... (blog). Been reading lots of good books… (blog). Been seriously attending to my health and well-being… (It’s all there in my blog.)
Blessings to you all in this New Year, and may we roll with the punches as change comes to America and things start to right themselves. Over time, I believe it will get better. Just hold on to your loved ones and remember Who’s at the tiller!

Steve will write his own “doings”…
