06:00 pm - Emma Redeemed
I take it back. After watching the Gweneth Paltrow version of EMMA just now, I have to confess that I loved the movie. Gweneth's portayal of Emma was nothing short of brilliant. The Emma in the book had a snobbish, nasty edge to her that continually grated on me and prohibited me from being able to finish the story. But, Gweneth put a softer, more innocent, more human spin on Emma's character that was much easier to like. And Mr. Knightly was indeed that knight in shining armor that I was suspecting he was. (Wasn't his name a dead giveway?) The movie edited out all the tiresome, irritating conversations in the book and only gave as much dialogue as was necessary to understand and move the story forward. The cast and the acting was superb. The music was moving. The costumes were eye-candy. The scenery was breathtaking. And it was well-worth the watch just to witness the heartwarming conclusion to the whole mess that Emma had gotten herself into. And it was SO satisfying when Mr. Knightly finally saved the day! Very romantic!
