Just another thought about balancing in the standing series of Bikram yoga. I had always had this vague notion that balance had to do with something in the brain. If I fell down right away when trying to balance on one leg, I assumed it was because I was getting older and my equalibrium was not as good anymore. (I used to be able to stand on one leg easily!) But, I think the truth is that as I age, my muscles in general are losing tone from lack of use. Esoscue says that our bodies are meant to be in almost constant motion when we are awake, and that sitting for hours and hours disengages muscles that should be working, making them weak and disfunctional. Due to my months of purposely strengthening the muscles around my knees with the Egoscue exercises, I notice that as I stand on one leg now the muscles surrounding my knee are very strong, rock solid. As I start to tip this way and that, those powerful muscles are able to automatically stop the tipping and bring me back where I should be. Not being able to balance was a direct result of me being out of shape! I had let my muscle tone deteriorate due to lack of exercise. Duh! It makes me wonder what other annoying symptom I have, that I've been blaming on aging, is simply caused by loss of muscle tone due to not moving enough.

So for some reason I thought you had stopped doing the e-cises. No?
