Ever since the bathroom renovation project, we have been continuing to move forward with our home improvement plans. This week we will replace our old synthetic carpet in the living room with a 100% wool carpet. In order to do that, of course, there is a lot of prep work. Like painting doors and bookshelves. And in order to paint the bookshelves, I needed to go through all the books in those bookshelves and weed out the ones we don't want anymore. Since we are enthusiastic book collectors, and have been for over 40 years, we're talking about a LOT of books! Books were going in every direction last week; to the used book store, to the library, to friends.... and we still have a ton of books left over! We still had many novels, such as those by Herman Hesse, that we last read in the late 60's! And why, I asked myself, when I could go to any library and check those novels out, why would I want to keep them for 40 years on our bookshelves? Sentimentality? I think so. Time to let go.
The freshly-painted bookshelf (We have three more bookshelves in this house that are full! One is floor to ceiling.)

At the base of the bookshelf is a last glimpse of the carpet we are replacing. It has served us well, but it's TIME TO GO.

Today I paint doors. The problem with painting is that as soon as one thing is painted, everything else looks either drab or dirty. It's a slippery slope, painting.

Oh, and there's the new office building at Damian and Maya's house next door. That starts tomorrow. I will be elaborating and documenting as we go along. We are so grateful to be able to do all of this!
