07:56 pm - A New Tradition
Yesterday at ten o'clock, five children heard the story of "Snowflake and the Dragon", then each were "knighted", rescued a baby bird from the dragon, carried the bird through an obstacle course, and finally returned it safely to its nest in our mulberry tree. After that, each child sculpted a dragon "pie" filled with cherries, then played while their treats were baking, and happily toted their warm pastries home by lunch time. Rather than describe any more, I'll just post the video and lots of pictures. They tell it all. (If the pictures seem too small, click on them to enlarge them.)
(Denney is the youngest. He was shy and a little scared at first, but he gained his nerve as he went along and became very brave... just like Knight Michael!) (Be sure to click on the photos of his knighting to see the look on his face.... priceless.)

"dragon, release that baby bird!"
"I can do this!"
"I can barely reach, but I can do it!"
"I'm almost there!"
I didn't get any stills of Kay, but she's in the video.
Our dragon pies just out of the oven:
These children are pure pleasure to work with. They listen. They look in your eyes. They follow directions. They get along well with each other. And they know how to have fun! (Credit is due to their wonderful, attentive parents!) Zoe's big sister, Shelby, was a big help with the kids, and she also enjoyed making dragon pie. A big thanks to her and to all the moms who participated. I think we'll be doing this again next year!
