Ollie spends a lot of time with his Papa, working in their yard most days. Damian is passionate about his ambitious permaculture project on their acre and a quarter property next door. And while Maya is working in her office, Ollie hangs out with his Papa. This involves rakes, shovels, plants, trees and soil. Also, wheelbarrows and water and manure.  The other day, they were raking up wild rabbit poop, which is lying about everywhere in the desert, shoveling it into the wheelbarrow, then wetting it down with the hose.  Later, Ollie was showing it to his mama while plunging his hands into the manure. Maya immediately told him to take his hands out of there! His response was:

"Why? Because it's anaerobic?"

I had to go look that word up in the dictionary! That's what happens when a child hangs around with his permaculturist father every day! His papa must be proud.

Wow! Whoa. What DOES that word mean? I hope they are going to homeschool that boy because I can't see public schoolings offering him anything.

Ollie hears all kinds of "permaculture" words from his dad on a daily basis. He's trying to figure out how to use them and is pretty fearless in his attempts (Why shouldn't he be? He's never been to school and been ridiculed for asking "dumb" questions. I just love that about little kids, in general, and feel very protective of that fearlessness. Kids are so intelligent before they go to school. Unfortunately, many of them get dumbed-down after a few years in that institution.
