09:25 pm - To Prove It

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

To prove I'm easily amused, I will tell of an incident that took place nearly 20 years ago. I was hanging up Ben's diapers on the clothesline, and my dad came out and started watching me. After a while he commented, "You look like you're almost enjoying that." And I said, "I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing right now." And I meant it! Talk about easily amused! When questioned further, I told him that I loved the feel and smell of white fluffy diapers after they had been blowing in the breeze and been bleached by the sun all day. And I loved thinking about how much I adored my sweet baby who wore those diapers while I was hanging them up, and taking them down, and folding them in a nice neat stack. And then I admitted that I even loved changing diapers. I think that by the time I'd had my fifth child, I had come to treasure every little part of caring for my babies, because it was over so quickly, and all the little baby tasks were so incredibly enjoyable for me. There is NOTHING cuter than a baby. Nothing. And there's nothing more compelling and engrossing than caring for one. That's how it was for me anyway.

You are really special

This is so sincere, and I know it is true of you. I have happy memories like that in retrospect, but I'm not sure if I could have said it was what I wanted to be doing at that moment. Sometimes I knew how good I had it, and sometimes not.

But I'm glad you wrote these things out.

Love you.
