Another Angle - Livin' the Good Life

Here is another angle of our living room. You can see better now how one stairway goes up to the three bedrooms upstairs. At the landing level there is a doorway (you can't see the door in this picture) to a large den. Off to the right of the living room there, I would take two steps up and be in the dining room and kitchen. All the rooms were very spacious. We had a wooden porch the came off the dining room and hung out over our steep backyard. We had many a summer meal out there on our picnic table. But, my main memory of that porch is sitting out in the lounge chair with my dad and looking at the stars at night. My mom and I regularly read aloud to each other on that lounge chair, and we cried many a tear while reading Anne of Green Gables and Understood Betsy to each other. I have so many warm memories of that gorgeous house. And the amazing thing is that we were NOT rich! My dad was an insurance salesman. Our family lived on one income. My dad was frugal, and my mom stayed home and saved money by doing everything herself. I don't ever remember hearing a stressful discussion about money while my parents were still together. They seemed to be able to make it just fine on a modest income. It just goes to show how different things were back then.
