03:10 pm - My Greatest Joy

Today I had the pleasure of hearing from a former childbirth student of mine, telling me that she just had her second baby. She had a few potential complications during her labor, and since she was in a hospital she was facing a possible c-section. When they offered her an epidural, she said "No thank you. I'll let you know if I need one", knowing full-well that she wouldn't be asking. She knew her body, knew that she would be dilating fast, and she did. Soon she was ready to push. The "C" word was thrown around when the doctor predicted that the cord was wrapped around the baby's body and would prevent the baby from coming down. Again, she just said "Let me try." The doctor agreed, and a minute and a half later a completely healthy, non-compromised baby came out screaming. She said the nurse cried with joy! The nurse told her that it was the most beautiful birth she had ever witnessed. She couldn't believe how well the mom and her husband worked together to bring this baby into the world. She said she had never seen anything like it. What she doesn't know is that ALL my Bradley students are like that. They are trained in a way that they work together like a well-oiled machine, mommy relaxing in response to daddy's voice and touch. I'm ALWAYS impressed with moms who birth naturally. But, those "Bradley dads" are something to behold! They know what to do to help their wives, and they do it very well. This is why I keep teaching. Sending couples out into the world who have consciously birthed together and are now ready to take their jobs as parents seriously, is my greatest joy! I'll never stop doing this.
